Alaska Ocean Leadership Awards
At last month’s first Alaska Marine Gala, held in Anchorage, two UAF professors received Alaska Ocean Leadership Awards in recognition of their work in marine science and sustainability.
Vera Alexander, professor emeritus, former dean of the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences and the first woman to earn a Ph.D. at UAF, was awarded the lifetime achievement award.
Gordon Kruse, professor of fisheries, earned the research award, acknowledging his exploration in mathematical models and data analysis.
The awards, founded by the Alaska SeaLife Center, will be displayed on a plaque at the Center, and nominations for future awards will be requested later this year.
