The Sun Star is the student-run weekly newspaper of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, which was formed by the 1981 merger of the previous UAF newspapers; the Journalism department’s Northern Sun, and the independently-run Polar Star. Student-led journalism at UAF began in 1946, and the Sun Star is proud to carry on that tradition.
With the exception of our faculty adviser, every member of the Sun Star staff is a UAF student. Our Editor-in-Chief leads a small editorial staff and 15 to 20 reporters in producing the newspaper, which releases weekly during the University’s Fall and Spring semesters. Our operation is funded with a portion of the ASUAF student fee, and by advertisers who want to reach customers at UAF and the surrounding community.
The Sun Star is made by students, for students, so we’re always eager to hear what you think! If you have suggestions, feedback, or even if you just want to say “hi,” stop by our offices in 305 Constitution Hall, or shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We hope you enjoy reading the Sun Star!
