The UAF campus is home to many clubs and traditions. Located in the Wood Center is UAF LIVE (Leadership Involvement Volunteer Experience). From aerial arts to Humans vs. Zombies, the on-campus office is dedicated to aiding student clubs and organizations.

“One of our biggest responsibilities is that we house 140 plus student organizations,” Josh Hovis, the Assistant Coordinator of Student Organizations at UAF LIVE, said. Workshops, book clubs, movie nights, student clubs, and volunteer opportunities are just a few examples of the organizations UAF LIVE houses.

The office is introducing an OrgSync app specific to UAF this year. OrgSync is a social media platform, a way to be connected to resources. A student can sign up for text and email alerts when student organizations are hosting events they are interested in. The app is also connected to the UAF calendar for student convenience, and will be available for use by student organizations and larger campus offices, like Residence Life.  It even has a search engine which allows student to look for specified scholarship opportunities.

Hovis is eagerly anticipating introducing OrgSync and the effect it will have on student activity. “It’s going to be their connection to campus,” Hovis said.

The LIVE office also looks forward to their traditions this 2015-16 school year. They are known for their recruitment for volunteer activities.

Each year the office recruits students for volunteer opportunities on and off campus.  These opportunities include trips to Fairbanks shelters and food banks, and work at UAF helping put on events and activities.

The LIVE office annually hosts an Alternative Spring Break Trip. According to Hovis, the Alternative Spring Break is “Student-led and student-funded.” The trip offers about a dozen students the opportunity to volunteer in a location outside of Alaska.  Locations are chosen by student leads and have, in the past, included New Orleans, Washington D.C., and Costa Rica.

The office hosts these clubs and services and more for those who wish to engage in campus activities.  The LIVE office is located in the Wood Center, and is open to all students.
