Alaska Nanook’s Women’s Swim Team won two games this weekend at the Patty Center Pool, earning a winning score of 113-92 against California Baptist on Friday, Oct. 26 and providing fans with a repeat performance of 113-92 on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Sophomore Margot Adams beat the pool record for the 200 meter fly by finishing the race in 2 minutes and 8.51 seconds, winning first in that event.

Alaska won first in two relays over the course of the weekend.  Freshman Eileen Audette, sophomore Gabi Summers, junior Bente Heller, and Adams won the 200 meter medley relay in 1:51.59.  Sophomore Danielle Lyons, Kendra Ashwell, Genevieve Johnson and Adams made up the 400 meter free relay team that beat California with a time of 3:45.07.

Summers contributed to the Nanook’s score with wins in the 200 and 500 meter free races, and Heller took the 50 and 100 meter free competitions.  Lyons won the 400 meter individual medley, giving the Nanooks a total of six individual first place wins, and two relay wins.  Alaska also earned three third place and one second place standing in the individual races.

Alaska Nanooks Volleyball suffered a loss of two points against their rivals, the UAA Seawolves on Saturday, Oct. 27.  Neither team maintained a clear lead in five sets of what Volleyball Coach Shoemaker described as “a really competitive, fight-to-the-death match.”

In the fourth set, after a change in the rotational order, the Nanooks found themselves 8 points ahead, taking the round with a kill by Sam Harthun with a score of 25-18.

“What’s a Seawolf?” Nanooks fans chanted as the team went into a fifth and final set.  With a final score of 13-15, the Nanooks lost the game.

UAF’s next home volleyball game will take place on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. against Seattle Pacific University.
