Annual art show awards prizes to talented students

The awards for the annual Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts Student Art Show for first, second and third place were announced at the award ceremony held Friday, Nov. 30 in the gallery in the Fine Arts Building. The show will be up for a week following the awards ceremony. Cash awards were given out to the student who won first, second and third place, as chosen by a panel of eight judges, made up of art department professors and heads.











This art piece titled "Baby Mine" is by Jasmin Johnson. While this may appear to be a painting, this piece in fact uses a combination of bleach and ink on top of a wrapped canvas. This is one of the larger canvas pieces that hangs in the UAF Art Department Gallery as part of the annual Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts Student Art Show hosted each year by the department. This sculpture piece is titled "Reel Time." Made by sophomore in the Arts program, Dorian Granger, this piece was created out of an old movie reel, salvaged from the local theater when they switched over the digital reels. This clock is in working order and spans about 2 feet across. This piece is hanging on the wall of the art department gallery as part of the annual Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts Student Art Show. This show will be up for a week following the awards ceremony that was held in the gallery on the evening of Friday, November 30. This untitled sculpture piece was made by Tammy Holland. Made of a mixture of wood, metal, wire and beads, this piece stands a little over two feet fall. This piece is part of the annual Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts Student Art Show that is hosted by the department in the Art Department Gallery. This acrylic painting by Liam Stockwell is titled "A forfeiture of one's fears and regrets, #293." One of two paintings in this set, this piece will be hanging in the UAF Art Department gallery as part of the annual Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts Student Art Show, hosted each year by the department. This piece, titled "Life of a Fisherman" stretches 15 feet tall. Made by sophomore in the Arts program, Dorian Granger, this piece consists of salvaged fishing gear, steel, and sheet metal. Starting with a base 4 feet wide, this piece curls in a double helix until it is only a few inches across as the top. "I commercial fish in the summer," said Granger, "so this piece kind of speaks to me personally." This piece is part of the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Find Arts show that is being held in the UAF Art Department gallery. This piece, titled "Red Line", is in the shape of a hollow chair and made mostly of 1/4 inch steel rod. This work is by student, Toliy Kosmin. Sitting in the middle of the UAF Art Department Gallery in the Fine Arts Building, this piece is part of the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts Student Art Show hosted each year by the art department to show the work of the departments most talented students. This show is open to any student who is a part of the BA or BFA programs. One of the few ceramic pieces in the gallery, this piece stands a little under a foot tall. Titled "My American Mind," this piece is by BFA student, Ian Wilkinson. This piece is part of the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts Student Art Show hosted each year by the art department. Titled "Aqua and Blue Ribbon," this piece by Erin Gingrich, is part of a large number of art pieces hanging in the UAF Art Department Gallery that uses more than one medium. This particular piece uses a combination of acrylic paint, thread, and shells. This piece is part of the annual Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts Student Art Show.
