</strong><em>May 7, 2013</em></p>
<p><strong>Re-trespassed</strong></p>
<p><em>April 25</em>- Residence Life staff called the UAFPD to report a 20-year-old male student who had previously been trespassed from UAF residential facilities for alcohol and marijuana possession. The man was sleeping in the Moore-Bartlett-Skarland Complex lobby. An officer arrived and woke the man<del></del> up. The man had bloodshot, watery eyes and an odor of alcohol on him. The student  said he did not drink any alcohol and he was just<del></del> visiting. <del></del>The man then changed his story, saying he was only there to get snacks and use the ATM machine. The officer arrested him for trespassing and searched him<del></del>. He found a pipe that tested positive for THC and he also performed a preliminary breath test, the man blew<del></del> a .071. He was transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center<del></del> and charged with trespassing, misconduct involving a controlled substance for the pipe<del></del> and habitual minor consuming of alcohol.</p>
<p><strong>Cooperation works miracles</strong></p>
<p><em>April 26</em>- A 21-year-old female driver drove the wrong way into the front MBS Complex lot. An officer contacted her and the 22-year-old female passenger. The officer smelled marijuana when he walked up to the vehicle. The<del></del> people inside the vehicle gave him consent to search it. He found marijuana residue and three open containers of alcohol. They admitted to smoking<del></del> the marijuana but said they were<del></del> drinking. The officer referred them to<del> </del>Dean of Students Don Foley, for further action instead of citing them since they were not under the influence of alcohol and had been cooperative. The bottles were disposed of and the residue was confiscated by the officer.</p>
<p><strong>Something smells skunky</strong></p>
<p><em>April 27 &#8211; </em>During the Theophilus London concert, an officer smelled <del></del>marijuana coming from a vehicle in the Patty Center parking lot. There were five people in the vehicle, three men and two women. The 20-year-old female driver consented to a search of the vehicle and all of the passengers consented having the officer pat them down, admitting they had smoked a joint before arriving. A 20-year-old Fairbanks man was summonsed for the possession of a controlled substance. A 20-year-old Fairbanks woman was summonsed for drinking underage and a 19-year-old North Pole man was also summonsed for underage drinking. They were all trespassed from campus for six months, except the driver who was a student.</p>
<p><strong> Bike theft update</strong></p>
<p><em>May 2- </em>Police are continuing the investigation on the 21-year-old man living in MacLean responsible for the theft of several bicycles and bike parts since Feb. 27 of this year.</p>
<p>The man has pending charges for theft of each of the bikes and parts.</p>
<p>“We can refer multiple cases at the same time to the district attorney’s office,” said Officer Sam Beaudreault. “We’re still putting together the last couple.”</p>
<p>Other victims have now surfaced, including the owner of a red Trek high-end bike that was stripped to the frame on West Ridge.</p>
<p>“One victim we just identified yesterday after he brought in his bike frame and he goes ‘it’s been stripped, I hear you guys had parts,’” said Beaudreault.</p>
<p>Beaudreault and Investigator Steve Goetz are working on the case. The suspect also scraped the serial numbers off of the bicycles.</p>
<p>Police are currently looking for the owner of a Trek Model 3900 taken from the front of McIntosh Hall around the time of Spring Break. The bike appears to have originally been red and white. Police ask that the bike owner and anyone whose bike parts were stolen please go to the police station to pick them up. UAFPD has the bike, handlebars, seats, wheels and tires. The man is expected to be charged this week and his name will be released at the time<del></del> the charges go through.</p>

<i>April 30, 2013</i></p>
<p><strong>Sex predator letter</strong></p>
<p>Several people from Rural Student Services reported to police that they received a letter regarding a sexual predator claim. The letter was anonymous and it was nine pages stating that a certain 40-year-old non-affiliated man had committed sex crimes and mentioned supposed social website entries. Four similar letters were addressed to the RSS newsletter and three members of the RSS department. Police ran the man’s identity and searched for any past cases that could relate to it but did not find anything<del></del>. The man had no open cases or<del></del> pending charges. The investigation is on-going.</p>
<p><strong>Boots with the green<br />
</strong></p>
<p>A 34-year-old man with lime green bunny boots, who had been previously accused of disturbing people for yelling at vehicles as they passed by, walked up to a female student in the Rasmuson Library and told her she was being &#8220;fucking damn loud&#8221; because he thought she was turning the pages too loud as she was reading on the fifth<del></del> floor. Police had previously received footage of a suspicious man in green bunny boots at the library and the when the woman reported him, police were able to match up the descriptions. The woman said that if police found him, she did not want to press charges, but she wanted police aware of what the man was doing in the library. Police did not find the suspect but the library staff later reported seeing him. Officers found him. He had no affiliation with UAF and was trespassed from all UAF property.</p>
<p><strong>Bike thief discovered<br />
</strong></p>
<p>Police found the man responsible for the theft of several bicycles and bike parts in the past months. A man reported to UAFPD that his blue Giant mountain bike had been taken from<del></del> a bike rack near Skarland Hall<del></del> around March 23. <del></del>Police reviewed<del></del> video footage, which showed an individual walking up and taking the bike. Officers followed his trail through the Upper Dorm woods,<del></del> toward MacLean House. An officer found a spray-painted bicycle locked to a pole next to <del></del>MacLean<del></del>.</p>
<p>The officer<del></del> asked a passerby who<del></del> the bike belonged to and they said it belonged to someone living in<del></del> MacLean<del></del>. The officer knocked on the suspect’s door and as he spoke with the man, he could see bike parts inside his room. The suspect claimed the bike was his and he had found it in the woods last fall and that he spray-<del></del>painted it then. The officer pointed out that the man had spray paint on his hands and the suspect said it was from <del></del>painting the bike parts. The man said he<del></del> bought the other bikes and parts from Craigslist. The officer asked him what the original color of the spray-painted bike was and the man answered blue. It matched the description of the man who reported his stolen bicycle. The suspect had his car parked outside which contained more bike parts and accessories. As the officer continued to question him, the suspect admitted to having taken the bikes and parts and told the officer where he took them from. The man has pending charges for theft of each of the bikes and parts.</p>
<p>Police ask that victims who had their bikes or bike parts stolen please come to the police station to pick them up. UAFPD has two bikes, handlebars, seats, wheels<del></del> and tires. One of the bicycles is an older model white Takara road bike and another is a red Trek high-end bike that was stripped to the frame on West Ridge. They have yet to be claimed.</p>

<em>April 16, 2013</em></p>
<p><strong>Fired up</strong></p>
<p><em>April 1</em>- Police found a small sedan with its engine on fire in the North Upper Dorms parking lot. Officers contacted the owner,<del></del> an 18-year-old man from Ft. Wainwright who had previously been trespassed. The man said he was not going to do anything about the burning vehicle and that he was leaving it there and it would be the police&#8217;s problem. <del></del>The man&#8217;s trespass was extended and the UAFPD put out the <del></del>fire. <del></del>Gabe&#8217;s Towing towed the car.</p>
<p><strong>False accusations</strong></p>
<p><em>April 1</em>- The Fairbanks Police Department requested assistance from UAFPD. A caller reported a 29-year-old man who drove off after an argument in fear that the man was possibly impaired, armed with a .45 caliber handgun, and likely to harm himself. Campus officers found the man&#8217;s red Dodge Stratus at the waste transfer site near<del></del> campus and contacted the driver. Alaska State Troopers arrived as back-up. The driver was not under the influence of any drug and agreed to let police search him<del></del> and his vehicle for the gun. Police did not find a gun, but they did find two bags of marijuana, one marijuana pipe<del></del> and one meth pipe. The drugs were confiscated and <del></del>the man was not arrested or charged since his consent search was for another reason. <del></del><strong></strong></p>
<p><strong>Hungry for time</strong></p>
<p><em>April 3</em>- A 78-year-old man called the UAFPD to report that the Lola Tilly Commons manager had cursed at him and assaulted him by forcing him out of the building while he was eating his meal. Police arrived and were informed that the man<del></del> bought his food 20 minutes before closing time and had taken over half an hour to eat it. <del></del>The man refused<del></del> to leave the commons, which close at 8 p.m., unless he was given a to-go box. There are no boxes available at the Commons and the man had yelled at the manager. He had been previously trespassed from other buildings for his misconduct and police trespassed him from the Commons.</p>
<p><strong>Weapon on campus</strong></p>
<p><em>April 7-</em> A man reported seeing a camouflaged person walking in the Moore-Bartlett-Skarland Complex front parking lot coming from the UAF Museum of the North with a .22 caliber rifle and getting into a red Neon. An officer stopped the 26-year-old male driver and he said that he was transporting his weapon to his car. The officer informed the man<del></del> of the UAF weapons policy, which states that weapons can be carried in the trunk of a vehicle but not into buildings.</p>
<p><strong>Sexual assault charges indicted</strong></p>
<p><em>April 11</em>- Sean A. Swammy, the 20-year-old man from Eielson Air Force Base, who was charged with sexual assault has now been found guilty of three counts. Aside from the woman he sexually assaulted in her Moore Hall dorm, he also assaulted another woman off campus. <del></del>Swammy assaulted the off <del></del>campus woman before the Moore Hall woman<del></del>, but she did not report it to the police station until after the second victim. The off <del></del>campus victim was attending a campus event when he offered to give her a ride home. She accepted and he sexually assaulted her once he drove off campus. Swammy was a student and is now trespassed from all UAF property. Swammy was indicted by a Fairbanks grand jury on one count of sexual assault in the First Degree and two counts of sexual assault in the Second Degree on April 11, 2013.</p>

</strong><em>April 5, 2013</em></p>
<p><strong>Sexual assault charge</strong></p>
<p><em>March 25</em>- A woman reported that 20-year-old Sean Swammy from Eielson Air Force Base sexually assaulted her in her Moore Hall dorm room. <del></del>The woman showed university police a text message in which Swammy said, “I don’t take no for an answer.” In an interview with police, Swammy said the victim said “no” or “stop” three to five times and also pushed his hands away three to five times, according to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. Swammy was transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center and charged with Sexual Assault in the Second Degree. Additional charges have been submitted to the District Attorney’s office and they are pending. Further investigation is needed <del></del>to see if more victims were involved. Swammy had been trespassed for a prior incident from all UAF property except academic buildings where he took classes. Swammy was permitted to arrive and stay on campus <del></del>30 minutes before and after class. <del></del>Swammy is now trespassed from all UAF property<del></del>.</p>
<p><strong>I hear voices</strong></p>
<p><em>March 29</em>- A UAF staff member called police to report hearing loud voices on the third floor of Constitution Hall. Officers showed up and found a 22-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man arguing. Police broke up the argument<del></del><del></del> and spoke to the individuals in separate rooms. Officers provided domestic violence paperwork to the man and woman. The woman had no <del></del>contact orders, meaning they could not be near each other, and existing conditions of release due to a prior incident with the same individual. Police called the Assistant District Attorney’s office and found that the orders had been modified from no contact to contact, but there had been a timing issue of notification between the court and UAFPD. Police reviewed the orders to them.</p>
<p><strong>Scream 2</strong></p>
<p><em>March 29</em>- A female neighbor called police to report screaming coming from a Hess Village apartment. An officer arrived at the scene of an argument. A 20-year-old woman voluntarily decided to leave for the night to end the confrontation, leaving a child behind with the 22-year-old man. The man was unwilling to watch over the child for a long period of time. Police contacted the Office of Child Services to resolve the problem.</p>
<p><strong>Reckless driving</strong></p>
<p><em>March 29</em>- An individual called to report someone driving recklessly on campus in a dark-colored Jeep with other people in the vehicle as if they were intoxicated. The caller did not want to press charges, but was concerned for their safety. Police spotted the vehicle on Yukon Drive with two people, a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old. They were given a warning to drive safer.</p>
<p><strong>Procrastination is always bad</strong></p>
<p><em>March 30</em>- Three weeks ago, a minor vehicle <del></del>accident occurred in the Hess Village Parking Lot when a 20-year-old man backed up into a 32-year-old male visitor&#8217;s vehicle<del></del>. The drivers<del></del> agreed to handle the situation after exchanging information, but one of the drivers did not turn in his paperwork. State participation forms are supposed to be turned in 10 days after an accident and the insurance companies were supposed to be contacted. The visitor reported to police that the other man had not followed up. An officer contacted the other person and more information was exchanged. Police are now aware of the incident and the state may take further action if the 20-year-old man does not follow through.</p>

<em>March 26, 2013</em></p>
<p><strong>Wrestling with alcohol</strong></p>
<p><em>March 15-</em> Patty Center staff contacted UAFPD about a fight between two young men in the south hallway. Officers searched for the 19-year-old non-student suspect. After contacting his mother, officers  found that the boy&#8217;s father picked him up. The mother provided a phone number and police reached him. The father and son agreed to meet with officers at the Wedgewood Apartments. The 16-year-old victim, contacted police to say he did not want to press charges despite having a cut lip. The suspect said they were <del></del>wrestling around and did not mean to hurt each other. The suspect also had a cut lip, but did not want to press charges. He admitted that he had been drinking alcohol earlier in the day before the confrontation and provided a breath sample, blowing a .087. He was cited for underage drinking and was trespassed from UAF property.</p>
<p><strong>Keeping it in the family</strong></p>
<p><em>March 16-</em> Alaska State Troopers requested that UAFPD respond to a report of an intoxicated 18-year-old woman who was swaying on Sandvik Street. The woman appeared lost and was pulling on car doors. Two campus officers saw two Native women at the nearby on the street. One of the women said she had just met the intoxicated woman and was waiting with her for her cab to arrive. The other woman appeared to be heavily intoxicated as she had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. They spoke to her in the patrol vehicle and she took a preliminary breath test, blowing a .209. While one officer was speaking to her, two individuals approached the other officer to say that they had seen the girl attack another girl in front of one of the Parkwest Apartments.</p>
<p><del></del>An officer walked over to the apartment and found a 19-year-old woman<del></del><del></del> slumped over outside. She was intoxicated, incoherent<del></del> and had a bloody nose. They brought back the 18-year-old woman back to the station and they were unable to reach her parents. Through further investigation they found out that the two women were cousins. Police transported both of them to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital to check their well <del></del>being. The 18-year-old woman was transported to the Fairbanks Youth Facility, where she will be charged with domestic violence assault in the fourth degree and she was cited for consuming alcohol as a minor. The 19-year-old was transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center and charged with habitual minor consuming of alcohol.</p>
<p><strong>A slap on the shoulder, ouch</strong></p>
<p><em>March 16-</em> A Community Service Officer was on patrol at an SRC dance when a man came up and slapped her extremely hard on the left shoulder. The CSO said he knocked<del></del> the air out of herand said he was glad to see security was there.<del></del> The officer reported that she was not injured or placed in fear, but kind of irritated at the way he rudely contacted her. The man<del></del> may have been intoxicated as he had slurred speech. The man<del></del> left her alone after making eye contact and the officer did not<del></del> pursue<del></del> assault charges. He was in his fifties and was not seen in surveillance cameras, so police do not have a suspect.</p>
<p><strong>Double the trouble</strong></p>
<p align="LEFT"><em>March 17-</em><del></del> McIntosh Hall Residence Director name called to report two roommates that were in a heated argument that could lead to a physical altercation<del></del>. UAF officers arrived and found that there had been no physical assault, but the two 20-year-old women had verbally argued. They were yelling in each other&#8217;s face when they were broken up by Residence Life staff and bystanders. Police gave the women disorderly conduct warnings and preliminary breath tests. They blew a .108 and .157. The officer issued citations to both of them for underage drinking. The women were having problems with each other for a while. They<del></del><del></del> agreed to stay away from each other for the night. One stayed at<del></del> a friend&#8217;s dorm room and the other stayed in their dorm room.</p>

<em>March 5, 2013</em></p>
<p><strong>Spicy stand up</strong></p>
<p>An officer on foot patrol during the first day of the Festival of Native Arts celebration, found a 15-year-old boy standing asleep on the handicap ramp of the Fine Arts building. The officer searched the boy and found a hatchet in his coat and a pipe the boy used to smoke spice. The officer took the boy to the UAFPD station to contact his older sister. The sister could not pick him up, so he was picked up by his cousin. The boy will be charged in a juvenile court for unlawful possession of a weapon and illegal drug use.</p>
<p><strong>Don&#8217;t back it up</strong></p>
<p>A 50-year-old male UAF employee went to the campus police station to report a road rage incident. A 21-year-old female driver followed the man on his way to campus and yelled at him. The man was driving to work<del></del> when he noticed the woman driving recklessly in front of him, so he passed her. <del></del>The woman honked her horn when he stopped at an intersection and got out of her car to argue with him. The man<del></del> admitted that as <del></del>the woman honked her car he<del></del> backed his vehicle toward<del></del> hers. The man then drove off and the woman continued to follow him to the West Eielson Parking Lot, where they had a verbal confrontation. <del></del>After the argument, the woman got in her car and left. A campus police officer contacted the woman and she provided her version of the events. The woman said she was in fear for her child&#8217;s safety when he backed up. Both parties took responsibility and apologized for their actions. No one pressed charges.</p>
<p><strong>Domestic Violence Assault<br />
</strong></p>
<p>An 11 and 12-year-old, reported an older cousin to police for threatening to kill them near the Wood Center. <del></del>The cousin asked one of the kids &#8220;do you hate life?&#8221; and then placed the boy<del></del> in a choke hold, and said he was going to kill him. The children ran up to<del></del> a Volunteer in Policing, a special police volunteer who works during the Festival of Native Arts, at <del></del> the Fine Arts Building where the FNA was being held, and reported the incident. They provided a description of the older cousin and the officers found him.</p>
<p>An officer detained the 23-year-old Fairbanks man who denied having any <del></del>knowledge<del></del> of the incident. Police questioned the victims and the suspect. The man admitted to being <del></del>highly intoxicated and assaulting the juveniles. The kid placed in a choke hold told police that while being choked, he felt drowsy and kept repeating that he did not want to die. His cousin then let him go. As they were running away <del></del>the older cousin chased<del></del> after them. The mother filed for the man&#8217;s arrest when she picked the boys up from the police station. The older cousin was<del></del> transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center. The man was charged with assault in the third degree and <del></del> domestic violence in<del></del> fourth degree<del></del>. He was also trespassed from UAF property for one year.</p>
<p><strong>Run for your pipe</strong></p>
<p>An officer saw <del></del>four suspicious individuals on the Rasmuson Library balcony, a place police know for attracting marijuana and alcohol consumers. The suspects saw the officer and began to walk away, leaving a trace of marijuana odor. The officer ordered them to stop and they started running so he chased them. He caught up to the first one and ordered him to wait there while he searched for the others. The officer found three of the four non-affiliated individuals. They did not admit who the fourth person was. Another officer came for backup and the suspects were patted down. The officers found a used black glass pipe. All of the individuals admitted to smoking the marijuana. The 26-year-old who was carrying the pipe was arrested and transported to the FCC for possession of a used pipe. He was trespassed from all UAF property for one week. The other two individuals were 39 and 51-years-old. They were not apprehended because they were not in possession of drugs.<strong><br />

<p><strong>One happy ending&#8230; with a tripod</strong></p>
<p><em>Feb. 13-</em> UAF Marketing and Communications <del></del>Photo <del></del>Manager Todd Paris left his tripod behind at the Butrovich building hill after taking photos. A 46-year-old man found the tripod while driving and asked a UAF bus driver what to do with it. The bus driver recommended some of the lost-and-found places. The man went to the Rasmuson Library and Wood Center, but decided to hold on to it instead of leaving it there. An officer tracked him down after reviewing video footage and he handed over the tripod. The man was not in trouble since UAF witnesses told police about his attempts to find the owner. Paris was so happy that he uploaded a video to YouTube titled “Campus photographer reunited with tripod.”</p>
<p><strong>Released and rearrested</strong></p>
<p><em>Feb. 13-</em> An officer stopped a 27-year-old non-student male driver on the Tamarack Street and Aurora Drive intersection for having an expired license plate and found that his driver&#8217;s license was revoked. The officer ran the man&#8217;s license plate number and found <del></del><del></del>that he was violating conditions of release by driving a motorized vehicle. The man was arrested<del></del> and transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center. The man was<del></del> was charged with driving with his license revoked and violating conditions of release.</p>
<p><strong>Missing laptop</strong></p>
<p><em>Feb. 15</em>- A 23-year-old female student called the UAFPD to report that her<del></del> had been stolen from her bag left in the Reichardt auditorium. She was taking a test there from 5:50 to 6:50 p.m. The bag was found but the laptop was missing<del></del>. Other students who were watching a movie in the auditorium after her class helped her search for it, but the laptop was not found. The student did not know the serial number<em></em>, but campus police are still investigating. There are currently no suspects.</p>
<p><strong>Shots fired</strong></p>
<p><em>Feb. 16-</em> UAFPD assisted Alaska State Troopers on a search for the suspects who fired shots outside of the Showboat, a gentleman&#8217;s club on Old Airport Way. Intoxicated people in a Cadillac Escalade with tinted windows, fired shots in the air in the parking lot of the club, according to witnesses and club bouncers. <del></del><del></del>Police cleared the area and searched for similar vehicles around Fairbanks but did not find any suspects. There was no damage or injuries.</p>
<p><del></del><strong>Trustworthy?</strong></p>
<p><em>Feb. 18-</em> A 22-year-old female resident of Harwood Hall family apartments called the UAFPD to report that she was scared of her husband, who was very angry and yelling. The woman asked for officers to come to her apartment. She was afraid to hang up the phone in fear that her husband would hit her or their 18-month-old baby. UAFPD arrived and found that the 27-year-old non-affiliated man had pushed a laptop off a table and had been flailing his arms in anger over an argument of her not trusting him. Although t<del></del>hey were living together, he was arrested and transported to the FCC<del> </del>and charged with domestic violence assault for placing his wife in fear of imminent physical injury. The man was trespassed for two weeks from all UAF property and has to call UAFPD to pick up personal belongings.</p>

<em>February 19, 2013</em></p>
<p><strong>Stalker shocker</strong></p>
<p><strong><em>Feb. 7-</em> </strong>A 25-year-old female student went to the UAFPD to press charges on a 29-year-old non-affiliated man who violated his restraining order’s requirements by emailing her. The man had a 20-day order for stalking her and it had been extended to six months. Police found that although she had checked all the correct boxes for no contact on her form, the court had failed to check the box for text messages, calls and emails. It was the court’s mistake and the man took advantage of the opportunity to email her. The courthouse fixed it and the new court order was sent out to the man, woman, and the UAFPD.</p>
<p>Cash dash</p>
<p><strong><em>Feb. 7-</em></strong> A 20-year-old woman reported that someone had stolen $140 from her purse. The woman <del></del> left her purse  in her unlocked car in the South Eielson Parking L<del></del>ot. She<del></del> left her vehicle parked on Feb. 6 from 2 to 3:15 p.m. The woman noticed the cash was missing two hours later at Fred Meyer. There are no suspects and the investigation is ongoing.</p>
<p><strong>Fire emergency</strong></p>
<p><em><b>Feb. 8- </b></em>A Wood Center kitchen male employee became aggressive after being fired. Another employee reported him to the police after the former employee threw stuff at him. Police were unable to contact the former employee to trespass him, but a bus driver who knew him agreed to inform police when he saw him. The 26-year-old complainant refused to press charges.</p>
<p><strong>False alarm</strong></p>
<p><strong><em>Feb. 9-</em></strong> The Office of Electronic Miniaturization on Industrial Avenue called the UAFPD to report that someone had stolen 50 gallons of fuel from the tanks used to heat the building. They reported the tank was filled a week after the actual date and failed to account for when they actually started using it, so they mistook the used fuel as being stolen.</p>
<p><strong>New York pity</strong></p>
<p><em><b>Feb. 9- </b></em>Police stopped a 28-year-old Fairbanks woman for failing to signal a lane change on Geist Road and for having burned out break lights when she was found to be driving with a revoked license. Her license had been suspended in New York for driving with no insurance and she claimed that the issue had been resolved. The woman had a dog in the car and a friend with a valid license agreed to drive her, so the officer issued her a summons.</p>
<p><strong>Face down</strong></p>
<p><em><b>Feb. 10- </b></em>A Resident Assistant reported a 20-year-old non-resident female student who was laying on her face passed out in a Stevens Hall hallway. She was sitting up when police arrived. She was found to be highly intoxicated after failing a preliminary breath test and was transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center to sleep it off. She was cited for<del></del> underage drinking.</p>

<em>February 12, 2013</em></p>
<p><strong>She bangs, she bangs<br />
</strong></p>
<p><em><strong>Jan. 29-</strong></em> Employees in the Business<del></del> Office pushed the panic alarm for the UAF<del></del> Police<del></del> Department. A<del></del> 57-year-old woman scared them when she began banging the counters and tried reaching through the window,<del></del> demanding the money for her classes back. She was applying for her first semester at UAF online, but she did not want to provide personal information to register in classes online, fearing identity theft. The woman<del></del> became hostile when the employees tried explaining the process to her. A campus police officer explained to the woman how to conduct herself and trespassed her from UAF until she spoke to the Dean of Students, Don Foley. She was scheduled for a meeting with the dean.</p>
<p><strong>Busi<del></del>ness<br />
</strong></p>
<p><em><b>Jan. 31- </b></em>A<del></del> school bus with 10 children on board and a UAF shuttle bus crashed into one another and wedged together while trying to pass each other on North Chandalar Drive. The 61-year-old shuttle driver and the 59-year-old female bus driver were both driving opposite ways at five miles per hour. The road was narrow<del></del> due to<del></del> parked cars on the left and a snow bank on the right. Both drivers kept going instead of stopping to let the other pass, causing them to<del></del> crash into<del></del> eachother. The crash caused minor damages to the vehicles. Facilities<del></del> Services helped<del></del> separate the vehicles. There were no injuries and participation forms were exchanged. There were no citations.</p>
<p><strong>Lucky guy</strong></p>
<p><em><b>Feb. 1- </b></em>A 42-year-old male UAF employee reported to police that he backed into a parked red Sudan covered in snow at a UAF parking lot, breaking the taillight. He said<del></del> the car appeared to have been there a long time, but after he left the area to get something to write with and<del></del> returned, the car was gone. Although he had the <del></del>license plate number, one letter was<del></del> wrong. However the police were still able to find the car in the system. The owner of the Sudan was a male student who had left it in the lot over winter<del></del> break. <del></del>The student said he previously had a hit-and-run at Wal-Mart in the same area of the car, so there wasn&#8217;t any notable extra damage. He had already been paid by his insurance, so he decided not to take <del></del> further action.</p>
<p><strong>Sleeping beast</strong></p>
<p><strong><em>Feb. 3-</em></strong> An officer was on foot patrol in the Rasmuson Library when he found a little blood in the restroom. The officer<del></del> questioned a man in the 23-hour study area, who pointed at a 42-year-old male student sleeping on the floor. The policeman woke him up and found that he had nothing to do with the blood, but asked him not to sleep in the building because it is not permitted, since doing so is an international fire code violation.</p>
<p>The man began arguing that he had slept in the library for years and would continue doing it. The man then began goading the officer, saying<del></del> “Does that badge make you feel good?”</p>
<p>The officer trespassed him from the study area until he contacted the Dean of Students and<del></del> the student became more hostile. The officer called for assistance<del></del>. The first officer tried to offer him the dean’s number but<del></del> the man refused to take it. The individual filed a complaint against the two officers at the UAFPD. However, the officer&#8217;s uniform cameras<del></del> proved that the man’s statements were false. He was scheduled to meet up with the dean.</p>

<em>February 5, 2013</em></p>
<p><b>What a gentleman</b></p>
<p><em><strong>Jan. 23-</strong></em> There was a motor vehicle accident on Alumni Drive. The 22-year-old female driver was unable to stop her car due to icy roads and hit a 21-year-old male driver’s car. She was found to be at fault, but the male driver did not want to have her cited, so the charge<del></del> was dismissed. They exchanged insurance information. There was no damage or injuries. Facilities Services was called to gravel the road.</p>
<p><b>She was diggin’ it</b></p>
<p><em><b>Jan. 24- </b></em>A 27-year-old female driver struck a tree near<del></del><del></del> Thompson Drive and was attempting to dig herself out of her vehicle. She was coming around the icy corner and slid over, hit an embankment<del></del> and got stuck.<del></del> The woman was able to dig herself out and a man from the Grounds Crew at UAF Facilities Services helped pull out her car. No UAF damages were reported and minor damages were made to the vehicle. The officer gave her a warning for driving at basic speed, too fast for road conditions and a participation form to fill out. There were no injuries and the officer called for the area to be graveled.</p>
<p><b>That’s a signal</b></p>
<p><em><b>Jan. 25- </b></em>A motor vehicle accident involving three vehicles occurred in the Patty Center Parking L<del></del>ot. A 52-year-old male UAF property manager was driving his Dodge Durango towards the Student Recreation Center behind a 25-year-old woman from Fairbanks in a Subaru Impreza when <del></del>she stopped to turn. The man was attempting to drive around the vehicle that he thought was turning right when the woman unexpectedly turned left, barely hitting his vehicle. The manager attempted to avoid the accident by moving left. He went up and over the parking curb and hit an unattended parked vehicle. A 22-year-old man witnessed the accident and said they were both at fault. The woman was cited for failure to signal and the man was cited for failure to drive on the right side of the road. There were minor damages and no injuries.</p>
<p><b>Stumbledorm</b></p>
<p><em><strong>Jan. 26-</strong></em> A 33-year-old Bartlett Hall resident reported seeing an intoxicated man with a yellow jacket and a white hat stumbling and falling in the snow on Yukon Drive<del></del> between the Moore-Bartlett-Skarland Complex and the Reichardt<del></del> Building. Two campus police officers found the 18-year-old man in the MBS Complex, which he resides in. The man<del></del> failed a <del></del> preliminary<del></del> breath<del></del> test. He was cited for being an intoxicated minor and he gave consent for the officers to search his dorm for alcohol. They found none.</p>
<p><b>I wanna go home</b></p>
<p><em><b>Jan. 26- </b></em>An MBS Resident Assistant reported an intoxicated unresponsive woman with an odor of alcohol lying on a bench at the entrance of the Residence Life Office snoring. The RA<del></del> attempted to wake her, but she was unresponsive. A<del></del> campus police officer responded and found her to be a 20-year-old ex-resident of Bartlett Hall who is now living off campus.</p>
<p>The officer was going to give her a ride, but had to pat her down for weapons prior to that and found a used marijuana pipe in her jacket pocket. She refused to speak to the officer and told him to “Fuck off!” as he read her Miranda rights.</p>
<p>She was trespassed from all of UAF and transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center. She was charged with being a minor habitually consuming alcohol and for possession of <del></del>marijuana.<del></del></p>
<p><strong>Window pain</strong></p>
<p><em><strong>Jan. 27-</strong></em> A Lathrop Hall window pane to a 24-year-old female RD’s apartment was broken. There were two different screens missing and it appeared as if someone either threw something and<del></del> the shattered pane or climbed up and punched it. Officers contacted Facilities Services to install new windows. Footprints were left behind and officers took photos, but there are no suspects.</p>

<p><strong>Face it</strong></p>
<p><em>Jan. 18-</em> A campus police officer on patrol saw a vehicle facing the wrong way in traffic on the Johansen Expressway. As the officer drove toward<del></del> the vehicle<del></del>, the driver turned<del></del> around, maneuvered around two road graders and drove off the expressway. The vehicle then took down a sign, drove into the median and got stuck there. The police officer approached the vehicle and the 20-year-old female driver from North Pole exited the vehicle visibly intoxicated. The woman failed<del></del> the preliminary breath test, as a she was<del></del> two times over  the legal limit. <del></del>The woman was arrested for  a DUI, driving while her license was revoked<del></del> and having an outstanding warrant. She was transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center where she was also charged with being a minor consuming alcohol, operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol as a minor, no insurance and negligent driving. The 26-year-old male passenger from Fairbanks was<del></del> in violation of his felony probation<del></del> and was also transported to the FCC after his probation officer was notified of a used methamphetamine pipe that was in his possession. The man claimed the coat he was wearing and pipe were not his.</p>
<p><strong>You yield</strong></p>
<p><em>Jan. 18-</em> A 61-year-old female driver from Fairbanks caused a motor vehicle accident on Geist Road after she failed to yield to a Dodge truck driver who she thought was slowing down for her. The 29-year-old male student<del></del> driver said he was slowing down due to the traffic ahead. She was cited and her vehicle had to be towed because it was not drivable after damages to the front and driver’s side. There were no injuries.</p>
<p><strong>It&#8217;s your bedtime</strong></p>
<p><em>Jan. 19-</em> An officer pulled over a vehicle with minors, who were out Fairbanks Northstar Borough&#8217;s designated curfew hours<del></del> on College Road for making an improper right turn, having too dark tinted windows<del>,</del> and excessively bright headlights. There were five people in the vehicle, two of them under 18-years-old. Their parents were contacted and the minors were released to them.</p>
<p><strong>Grand Theft Auto</strong></p>
<p><em>Jan. 19-</em> A 22-year old male student reported that his Ford Taurus was broken into<del></del> after he left his doors unlocked in Denali Lane. The<del></del> vehicle next to it had also been broken into. The 23-year-old male owner had also left his neighboring Nissan Sentra unlocked and items were stolen. An empty beer can was recovered from one of the vehicles. According to UAFPD, the suspect was drinking the beer, grabbed a barricade, dragged it down the bottom of the hill to the lower dorms, broke into the cars, ransacked them, threw the beer in the car and threw the barricade under<del></del> the other car<del></del>. A guitar, a skateboard and a<del></del> duffel bag were stolen. The investigation in on-going.</p>
<p><strong>You can jump, but you can&#8217;t hide</strong></p>
<p><em>Jan. 20-</em> A Community Service Officer saw a man<del></del> stumbling while walking on Yukon Drive and the man immediately jumped into the woods.<del></del> The police found the underage man<del></del> on the East side of the Patty Center fighting with himself<del></del>. Police approached the man to take a preliminary breath test<del></del>. The man failed the test, scoring a .264, more than three times <del></del>the legal limit. He was transported to FCC<del></del> and charged<del></del> a minor consuming alcohol.<del></del></p>
<p><strong>Scandalism</strong></p>
<p><em>Jan. 21-</em> A custodian reported vandalism in room 202 of the Gruening building. It seemed like someone had tried to set tables and desks on fire. They had also written “Cum<del></del> everywhere” on the whiteboard. The room was supposed to be locked, but was<del></del> left open Sunday night. There are currently no suspects, but UAFPD have yet to review camera footage. The investigation is on-<del></del>going.</p>

<em>December 4, 2012</em></p>
<p><strong>Sometimes sharing is not caring</strong></p>
<p><em>Nov. 14-</em> A 19–year-old male resident reported to police that his cell phone had been taken after he forgot it on the toilet paper dispenser in a Moore Hall restroom stall. An 18-year-old Fairbanks male resident took it and gave it to his 20-year-old UAF friend. They knew that it could be tracked since it was an iPhone, so they took out the SIM card and left it on a window ledge. Video footage revealed their identity. Police found the suspect. The friend said he kept it “because it is what any other person would do.” The phone was recovered along with the hidden SIM card. They are being charged with<del></del> theft in the third<del></del> degree,<del></del> theft by receiving, and tampering with physical evidence, which is a felony.</p>
<p><strong>YOLO, parking solo</strong></p>
<p><em>Nov. 18-</em> A campus officer saw a<del></del> vehicle parked at the far Northeast corner of the Taku Lot and found three people smoking drugs. With their consent to search the vehicle, he found 7 air fresheners, one gram of marijuana, a spice package, a pipe<del></del> and wrapping papers. They were two men and one woman, all 20-year-old non-students. The drugs were seized without charges, but they were all trespassed from UAF property.</p>
<p><strong>Don&#8217;t hate</strong></p>
<p><em>Nov. 20-</em> The UAF janitorial manager told police about racist writing on the first floor men’s bathroom wall seen by custodians in the Irving building. The comments were written in black permanent ink and were anti-illegal immigration, notably anti-Mexican, anti-African American referring to President Obama<del></del>, etc. There were comments about America being a white man’s nation. Facilities Services painted over it and there are currently no suspects.</p>
<p><strong>Why can&#8217;t we be friends?</strong></p>
<p><em>Nov. 24-</em> A 46-year-old female non-student requested a police standby while she collected her belongings from her ex Hess Village home because the 77-year-old male resident threatened to throw her stuff into the snow. When an officer showed up, they were having a dispute over a musical instrument. The man said she owed him money and would not return the instrument until he got it back. Police determined it was a civil dispute that must be taken to court. After she left, the man stopped by the PD to make sure they advise her she is trespassed from all UAF campus. Police say this dispute has been going on for about two years.</p>
<p><strong>Last one to the cop car is a rotten egg</strong></p>
<p><em>Nov. 25-</em> UAF police stopped a vehicle for having an inoperable headlight and discovered there was a warrant for the 23-year-old male Fairbanks passenger&#8217;s arrest. The passenger started out falsely claiming that he was his 26-year-old brother from North Pole. The campus officer contacted the probation officer who demanded he perform a preliminary breath test. The officer asked him to step out of the vehicle. The man allowed the officer to search him and the officer then directed him to the patrol vehicle to take the PBT. Instead, the man took off running. UAF PD contacted AST. The officers went off to search for him and the 22-year-old driver waited, but eventually left the scene with the vehicle. The passenger was apprehended and taken to the Fairbanks Correctional Center, where he was charged with making a false report, probation violation, and for evading. The driver came into the police station the next day to pick up his driver’s license and claimed that he was simply giving the passenger a ride after meeting him at a party. No charges were made against the driver.</p>

<p><em><strong>Nov. 8- </strong></em>The Lathrop Hall Residence Director reported a 28-year-old non-responsive non-affiliated man to campus police. The man was left passed out in a chair by another non-affiliated man who was let in by residents holding the door open for them. Police found the non-responsive man had a blood alcohol level of .3, which is a level at which death is a risk. He was transported to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, then the Fairbanks Correctional Center for protective custody. He was trespassed from all UAF property. The other man who left him there had gone into the SRC to play basketball and ran out the emergency exit doors when campus officers were searching for him. <p><strong>Don&#8217;t drive quick when it&#8217;s slick</strong></p>
<p><em><strong>Nov. 10- </strong></em>Alaska State Troopers called for campus police assistance due an accident involving two vehicles. A 22-year-old female student lost control of her car due to the slick roads. The vehicle spun in a 180 turn, damaging the rear left door and hit a light pole that fell with the cross arms between the Ballaine off-ramp and Farmers Loop. The car continued to slide and crashed into another vehicle with two men inside. The woman was cited for basic speed, which means she was driving too fast for road conditions. The front of both vehicles was damaged, but there were no injuries. The Department of Transportation was notified to fix the light pole.</p>
<p><strong> Go to your room!</strong></p>
<p><strong><em>Nov. 11</em>- </strong>A Bartlett Hall Resident Assistant on duty confiscated marijuana and a bong from residents and reported it to campus police. The residents were two men and a woman who were all 19-years-old. An officer arrived and found more marijuana and a glass pipe. Two of them were trespassed from all residential facilities except their own rooms and all three were given disorderly conduct warnings.</p>
<p><strong>Sexts</strong></p>
<p><em><strong>Nov. 11- </strong></em>An 18-year-old female student in Skarland Hall was receiving unwanted and unsolicited text messages and pictures of male body parts after posting an ad with her phone number on Craig’s List to sell an item. She reported this to campus police. The police investigated and found a possible suspect. The 18-year-old male suspect admitted to the offense and apologized. The man did not know her, but used her phone number from the ad. He was told not to make further contact or communication with the woman. The suspect agreed and the woman was satisfied and did not press charges.</p>
<p><strong>Bad reaction to sleeping pills</strong></p>
<p><em><strong>Nov. 12- </strong></em>A Nerland Hall Resident Assistant reported a 20-year-old male resident took sleeping pills and was acting incoherent. A campus police officer and Emergency Medical Services arrived to assist the student. The student was transported to the FMH after having a bad reaction to pills that belonged to a family member. An officer followed up the next day because the patient was unable to answer questions that day. He was released from the hospital in good condition.</p>
<p><strong>What the?</strong></p>
<p><em><strong>Nov. 13- </strong></em>A 25-year-old female student reported to police that her credit card, driver’s license and veteran ID were stolen while she was getting coffee at the kiosk in the Rasmuson 24-hour library. The student&#8217;s items were on the table directly next to her. She turned to sign a receipt and when she looked back, they were gone. There was no one around and the cards were nowhere to be found. The woman cancelled all of her cards. There are no suspects and the investigation is on-going.</p>
