Senators present: 

Eli Barry-Garland, Brix Hahn, Michael Magnan, Michael Mancill, Tayesia Nick, Shane Poindexter, Cordero Reid, Bethany Steele, John Seiler, Daniel Strigle and Sarah Walker

Consideration of appointments

Steele nominated Strigle to senate chair. No other nominates were made. Strigle was appointed as senate by a unanimous vote.

Oath of Office

Strigle swore in Barry-Garland, Hahn, Nick, Poindexter, Reid, Steele and Walker as senators.

Oath of Office II

Magnan and Mancill’s appointments to senator were brought under consideration and confirmed unanimously by the senate.

Committees

Magnan was nominated to the Internal Affairs committee chair and Mancill was nominated to the Executive committee. The senate approved both nominations unanimously. Barry-Garland was nominated to the Student Affairs committee chair and approved by a vote of 7 to 2. Hahn was nominated to the Public Relations committee chair and approved by a vote of 4 to 3.

Fittest Winner for Students

Kailey Stanfield presented a proposal to ASUAF to request funding for a student branch of the Fittest Winner Competition. Last year, 84 students participated in the program on teams to win prizes for weight loss, exercise time and moving toward a healthy lifestyle. Stanfield asked for a maximum of $2,100 to fund marketing. The senate will consider the proposal at the next meeting, on Sunday, September 15.

Lifelong dreams

Daniel Darrow from the Department of Foreign Languages put forward a request on behalf of a Spanish speaking student seeking the opportunity to travel to Alaska to fulfill his lifelong dream to come to Alaska. Darrow is requesting some assistance in funding the student’s travel or living expenses. Darrow said he has made an effort to reach out to the Political Science’s Phi Sigma Alpha club, Office of the Vice Provost, Spanish Club, Political Science Department and the Department of Foreign Languages to help fund the project.

Summer Committee Report

The summer senate met as consistently as possible during the break. The committee successfully finalized the purchase of four Rebel EOS Canon cameras for use. The camera’s purpose was not specified. The senate also purchased sign and poster holders that can be checked out through the ASUAF office by students.
