January 17- Getting high before driving
A campus officer smelled marijuana while conducting a traffic stop. The driver was not smoking marijuana at the time, but admitted to smoking it earlier in the day. The officer asked the driver for permission to search his vehicle. The driver refused. The officer had the vehicle impounded until a search warrant is obtained.
January 17- Filing taxes isn’t fun
An individual reported that somebody used their social security number to file taxes without their knowledge. The person discovered this when they attempted to file their own taxes, and were denied because their taxes had already been completed. A report was filed with the campus police and the IRS. The investigation is on-going.
January 18- Smokin’ dope in the dorms
A community service officer on patrol smelled marijuana on the second floor of Bartlett Hall. The CSO contacted the dorm’s Resident Assistants and the campus police, who found the room the smell was coming room. The individuals in the room admitted to smoking marijuana. Police confiscating their homemade bong. Residence Life is handling the situation.
January 18- Concerned drinking buddy
A campus officer on patrol came across an intoxicated man in the Hess Village parking lot. The man was looking for a woman. The man was worried about her, since she had been drinking as well. The officer found the woman in the Moore-Bartlett-Skarland lobby. They were given a summons to appear in court for underage drinking.
January 19- Vehicle bursts into flames
Campus officers and the UAF Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle engulfed in flames in the upper Moore-Bartlett-Skarland parking lot. The vehicle was older and had been plugged in and appeared to have caught on fire on its own. The vehicle was destroyed.
January 19- Intoxicated female
A campus officer on foot patrol found a woman passed out on the stairs in McIntosh Hall. UAF Emergency medical services took the woman to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. Police gave her a summons to appear in court for minor consuming.
