The University of Alaska Fairbanks has introduced a new design for the PolarExpress card used by faculty, staff, and students.
The Polar Express card is important for students and faculty
, because it acts as an identification card. The card allows free access to the Metropolitan Area Commuter System buses, access to computer labs on campus and acts as a meal card.
This design change is intended to provide a more consistent image across the university with
UAF’s new “Naturally Inspiring” marketing campaign. The old design hasn’t been updated since 1999. The new design became available on Jan. 3.
PolarExpress cards do not have an expiration date but can be replaced for free after four years because
the magnetic strips start to deteriorate after four years. Students whose cards are less than four years old can get a new card for $5, half of the regular replacement fee of $10.
