UAF residence life has announced that starting fall semester 2016, residents of Cutler Apartment Complex will be required to purchase a meal plan costing at least $295. This week we asked students: What effect do you think this will have?
“I mean, I think it’s very unfortunate for the Cutler residents. They have a whole apartment and it’s just inconvenient for them to have to purchase food from UAF. I feel like they have the option already, so why force them to?”
“Its gonna be more money that is wasted. Every year I’m wasting a couple thousand dollars on meal plans. I think that the effect will be that more students at Cutler will be seeing challenges with paying for school.”
“I think that will create an outcry for the students who are planning at living at cutler and I think that more students will be looking at off-campus housing. My old school Warner Pacific had this problem and the students responded by going to off-campus housing.”

“It would make it less appealing to live there for a broader market of interested students.”
