Games are in our blood, having stimulated brains and satisfied competitive urges for centuries. Although the basic framework of goals, rules, and challenges has remained intact, much of the human interaction has been lost to the video realm. This may be true for the average gamer, but not at UAF!
POP-CON, a comic book and gaming convention, is scheduled to revolutionize the campus gaming community. This flagship event plans to bring game and cartoon enthusiasts of all genres together at the Wood Center this Nov. 12 and 13 for a weekend of tournaments, vendors, workshops and, best of all, PRIZES!
The convention will center around a screening of Reformat the Planet, a documentary about 8-bit music made by Portland-based 2P Productions. The film chronicles the development of chiptune, which is Geek for: music made through the manipulation of classic video game hardware. Following the film, director Paul Owens will tackle questions from the audience. DJ Bitshifter, himself featured throughout the film, will also be on hand to teach a workshop on making 8-bit music. He will also feature a set at the Pub’s Superhero Dance Party following the workshop.
As an honorary member of the “first generation of gamers”, this is one event you won’t want to miss. Inner children of all ages are welcome. Don’t forget your game face. For more information contact the Student Activities Office at 474-6026 or email@example.com.
