Thanksgiving Dinner – RES LIFE – MBS
by Anessia Hubler
A Thanksgiving dinner will be held Thursday Nov. 27, in the Hess Recreation Center of the MBS building for all students that are staying on campus this Thanksgiving. Resident Assistant Dan Matthews will be directing the setup of this event along with help from other RAs.
“I’ve been going to UAF for four years now and thought the dinner would be nice for students that could not go home.” Mathews said. He is trying to get the students out of their rooms to enjoy the holiday and help with any homesickness they may be feeling because they can’t afford to go home.
“I’m looking forward to a nice meal that
’s does not come out of a microwave,” said Taylor Colette, engineering student.
Resident hall members and the gaming club will be cooking three turkeys, a ham and other traditional side dishes. The money for the food is coming from the Skarland and Moore Resident Life Budget so they can only buy so much. Res Life is taking requests, until Nov. 23, for what food should be made and served at the dinner. Student who are going are encouraged to bring their own dish to help out, but it is not mandatory.
This dinner does not just involve food though, starting at noon on the 27, students will be welcome to come sit in Hess Rec and watch the football game. Seating for the dinner will start at 4 p.m. and go to 8 p.m. The dinner will be done buffet style and the student may eat as much as they would like to
, and will be free of charge.
“We just want the students to have a good time and get out of their rooms,” Mathews said.
If you have questions about the dinner or are interested in helping out you can go see Mathews in room 309 of Skarland or you can contact him through message on the Skarland Resident Life Facebook page.
